The Academy was founded as the country\u2019s highest scientific and artistic institution, with the purpose of monitoring and fostering the development of the sciences and arts and promoting their advancement. The Academy examines matters concerning cultural heritage and natural resources, contributes to the formulation of national policy in the sciences and arts, and initiates, coordinates, organizes and conducts scientific research and artistic activities, particularly those of exceptional importance to Macedonia. It provides conditions for the scientific and artistic work of its members, promotes the application of contemporary methods, scientific knowledge and research results, and establishes, maintains and develops international cooperation in the sciences and arts.<br \/>\nAs the highest independent scientific and artistic institution, the Academy fulfills its responsibilities by organizing fundamental, developmental and applied research, especially complex and multidisciplinary research; by organizing scientific meetings and artistic presentations; and by publishing the results of scientific research and conferences, as well as artistic achievements. The Academy cooperates with universities, scientific and cultural institutions, associations in the sciences and arts, and other organizations in these fields within the Republic, as well as with academies of sciences and arts and other scientific and artistic institutions abroad.<br \/>\nIn modern Macedonian history, following the constitution of the Macedonian state at the First Session of ASNOM in 1944, the year 1967 is regarded as the year of the official establishment of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts. The Academy will soon mark the major jubilee of fifty years since its establishment.<br \/>\nA significant stage in the development of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts has been completed. Like all institutions, however, the Academy itself faces the major challenges of the new millennium. In the years and decades ahead, the Academy will continue to work consistently toward fulfilling its mission and vision.<br \/>\nThe mission of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts is to make its full contribution to integrating Macedonian science and art into contemporary European and global scientific and artistic developments in these vital spheres of the human spirit and civilization, by encouraging scientific research and maintaining a continuous commitment to the preservation and affirmation of Macedonia\u2019s artistic and cultural wealth and heritage as essential prerequisites for the overall development of the Republic of Macedonia.<br \/>\nThe vision of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts is for Macedonia to become an advanced society founded on science and knowledge.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MASA) was established by a law adopted on February 22, 1967 by the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia.
